The National Democratic Congress, NDC communication Director for Kintampo South constituency, Mr. Matthew Atanga as well as a former NDC constituency secretary for Kintampo North, Mr. Emmanuel Kafui Venkumwini , have called on the president of the republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to appointment Benjamin Amoako Frimpong popularly known as POPA who is the current communications Director of the New Patriotic party, NPP for Kintampo North constituency to a higher position in his second government.
Their call, when considered, according to them, will serve as a reward for POPA's commitment, sacrifices and hardwork he has offered the NPP over the past Years.
In an article published on March 8, 2021 and and a subsequent interview granted with GBC Radio-kintampo, on March 9, 2021, Mr. Atanga argued that, despite their political differences, he can testify to the fact that POPA is an exampleray personality and more qualified for any position that the president offers him. He said Popa is even more qualified than some of the NPP guys currently holding higher positions in the current government.
He explained that the leadership exhibited by Popa during the campaign prior to the 2020 general Elections and the amount of his personal resources including his car he used to support the party during the campaign is enough for one to call for his reward.
" He used his personal money and car to assist the NPP during the campaign season. His car as we speak has broken down and he now resorts to picking Okadas but the fact is, the NPP, as we already know does not reward hardwork and loyalty", he told Abdul Rahman Shaibu on GBC radio-kintampo's morning show, "Adekyemu Nsem" on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
Mathew Atanga also advised Popa and all NPP supporters in Kintampo to defect to the NDC if Popa is not given an appointment.
"I am telling Popa today that if they mistreat him, he should leave them and come to NDC, we will treat him well. All of you NPP supporters listening to me, if Popa is not given an appointment, leave NPP and come to NDC. It is the party that rewards hardwork" he said.
On his part, the NDC stalwart in the kintampo North constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Kafui Venkumwini, said their call for Popa to be rewarded is not based on the fact that he is their friend but because Popa is a unifyer and a hard worker who is capable of serving the Constituency without any bias. He said this is also good for the NDC party executives/members in the two sister constituencies in future since they may be faced with a similar situation and need the support of their opponents, NPP.
" If in future, my party comes into power and neglects us, who will fight for us?. So what we are saying is that any position at the top; from the level of presidential staffer upwards is meritorious for Popa and the people of Kintampo" he told Rahman.
Owusu Agyei Ebenezer popularly known as June-July , one of the NPP communicators in the kintampo North constituency who agreed with the call by his colleagues from the other side, lamented that the NPP has, over the years, not been fair to the people of Kintampo in respect of appointments to higher positions in government. He mentioned names like Mr.Ampim Darko, Bawa peace, both former constituency chairmen of the NPP and Shiek Dauda Awudu, a former constituency secretary, as some few persons he feels the party has not been fair too.
He said the positions they mostly get are DCEs/MCEs adding that, "as we speak, more than ten(10) applications are in possession of our Regional chairman. All of them strongly lobbying to be MCEs, imagane "
He therefore, called on the president to consider rewarding hardworking members of the party in the constituency to encourage them, (the youth) to work more harder for the party.
Meanwhile, a vigorous media ( both traditional and social) campaign has been launched to put pressure on the president to offer Benjemin Amoako Frimpong a.k.a Popa a higher position in his current government.
The campaign, led by both NDC and NPP communicators in the kintampo North and South constituencies is gaining momentum on Facebook and radio stations in Kintampo.
Mr. Amoako Frimpong, Popa is a former TESCON executive of the Sunyani nursing training college. He the founder of NPP YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, a youth group of the NPP in Kintampo North and also the leader of V-20, a collation of all the youth groups in the
Bono East Region. He is currently a senior anesthesist at the kintampo Municipal Hospital
